.. title:: Talk: Fast Derivatives for Beam Optics .. only:: html Advancements in Fast Derivatives for Beam Optics ================================================ Speaker: Bernardo Abreu Figueiredo, RWTH Aachen Abstract ^^^^^^^^ As particle accelerators grow larger and more complex, efficient derivative computation remains central to Accelerator Physics. Whether designing optics for a new machine or analysing an existing one, derivatives play a key role. This is not only the case when calculating the Jacobian for a continuous multi- dimensional optimization problem, but also when computing the objective function itself, which depends on derivatives. Furthermore, higher-order derivatives are necessary to calculate physical quantities of interest, such as chromaticities. This contribution presents the integration of the Generalized Truncated Power Series Algebra (GTPSA) library from MAD-NG into the Xsuite package, in which the accelerator's transfer map and its derivatives with respect to user-defined variables are obtained from a tracking pass, and optics functions and Jacobians can be read directly from the resulting map. This approach is compared with an in-house implementation based on JAX, with respect to performance and maintainability.
