The green-ci tool was created in a hackathon at the Virtual Institute for Scientific Software Convening in Cambridge, UK, in September 2025. Its initial and ongoing development has been done by software engineers from the Institute of Computing for Climate Science at the Unversity of Cambridge, UK, and the Scientific Software Engineering Center at the University of Washington, USA.
